Dundee Utd boss Levein desperate for striker signing

Dundee United boss Craig Levein admits he's desperate to find a new striker after their stalemate with Hibs.

With targetman Jon Daly still out with a long-term knee injury, Noel Hunt was again deployed as a lone striker in the Clydesdale Bank Premier League clash.

And although Hunt twice came close to scoring late on, he could not break the deadlock.

Levein's attacking options could now be further reduced, as winger Craig Conway went for an X-ray on his foot after being substituted in the 30th minute.

That has left the United boss in dire need of a new frontman, with less than a fortnight to complete a deal.

He said: "I can't afford to go beyond the window without getting someone in.

"To be fair to Noel Hunt, he works his socks off and plays up front or wide just to help the team.

"But we need more firepower and hopefully I can sort it out over the next fortnight."
