Rangers have to stay in the Scottish Premier League according to Dundee United manager Peter Houston.
The SPL board will continue to hold meetings early this week to decide what the fate of the Glasgow giants will be after they fell into administration in February.
Houston understands that opposing fans will want to see 'Gers relegated to Division Three but the Terrors boss feels that the Scottish top flight will suffer without the Ibrox outfit.
"I know that fans will be upset by that but being at the sharp end of what's going on with regards to budgets and knowing what it can do for the SPL and Scottish football? I've no doubt we need them.
"Rangers have to be punished somehow - I totally agree with that.
"How they punish them I don't know. But to get rid of Rangers is not something we can think about.""Personally speaking I think we need to keep Rangers in the SPL," he said.
