Dundee chief Gardiner calls for more respect for new boss Brown

Dundee chief executive Scot Gardiner has urged outsiders to show more respect to new manager John Brown.

'Bomber' has been installed as interim boss of the Dees following Barry Smith's sacking late last week but the announcement has been met with negativity by critics and Gardiner has implored it to stop immediately.

"I listened to what I thought was some disgraceful stuff on the radio while driving up to Dens on Saturday," said Gardiner.

"It was stuff from ex-pros, from pundits, from so-called experts.

"I thought it showed no respect for a man who played tremendously hard and was loved and outstanding at Dundee.

"Everyone knows his character and he is stepping in as an interim manager. He's going to assess the squad for us, which we have to do because most of those players are out of contract at the end of the season.

"We are continuing the process of looking to see what we will do at the end of the season with regards to making a full-time appointment. But the stuff on the radio was a disgrace.

"There was no respect for a guy who's done nothing wrong for Dundee and people were openly laughing in studios. I think that is appalling.

"I was with John in the car listening and we were just shaking our heads because the vitriol was appalling. It was uncalled for. He'd done nothing at all other than be appointed."
