Donovan will not treat Everton move as holiday

New Everton signing Landon Donovan has not moved to Goodison Park for a few months rest and relaxation. The American striker has transferred to the Toffees on a three-month loan from Major League Soccer outfit Los Angeles Galaxy, but he is determined to impress during his time on Merseyside.

"I'm very excited about this opportunity," he said. "This is almost the perfect opportunity when everything is put together like this.

"Tim (Howard) was the first guy to call me, along with my agent, when he heard Everton might be interested and we talked about it and what the expectations were.

"That was an important step for me to realise it is not just coming in for a few months and having a kick-about.

"This is the middle of the season, they have a few injuries and need immediate help so I have to be ready and that helped me prepare.

"The reality is I'm here to do a job and help the team win. I'm not just here to have fun for a few months.

"What I'm good at is creating chances and that is what I'll try to do here.

"I just like to be a danger to the other team and I think most sides can use a player like that - now I have to prove I belong and help score some goals."

The 27 year old revealed that he spoke with Galaxy team-mate David Beckham before moving to England, and that he thinks he will benefit from his time at Everton.

"David and I we speak a lot about his time here and he is confident I will do fine," he added.

"Knowing him, being around him and playing with him I can see what it takes to make it at a place like this and if you are not ready and prepared you can get passed by.

"That is good learning from me and I am taking these two-and-a-half months very seriously.

"This is a great opportunity for me and I don't want it to pass me by so I'm going to make the most of it."

However, Donovan is certain that he will return to the United States in March when his loan deal expires.

He remarked: "I've just signed an extension with LA so my plans are to be in LA for the next few years at least and then we'll see what happens."
