Donovan wants perfect end to LA Galaxy career

Landon Donovan is planning a fairytale ending to his professional soccer career.

The LA Galaxy star will play his final MLS match in Sunday's MLS Cup final against New England Revolution in front of home fans at the StubHub Center.

Donovan will pull the curtain on a brilliant career at the culmination of the final this weekend and is eager to walk away from the game with a record sixth MLS title on home soil.

"It seems perfect, yeah," Donovan said. "But we've got to win it. That's our challenge.

"We're playing a team that I think is the best team in the league the last 10 or 12 games, so it's going to be a challenge."

Donovan is well aware that the Galaxy have not yet secured any silverware this season but is hellbent on adding a fifth MLS Cup to the LA trophy cabinet and a fourth during his time with the club.

"We haven't won anything yet," Donovan added.

"This is just the first step along the way. The first part was the Salt Lake series (Western Conference semi-finals), and now Seattle (in the Conference final).

"Nobody's had to do it harder than we have. These are two very good teams. To beat the best team in the regular season during a series like this is very difficult.

"Now we get one game at home to win a championship, so if anyone had said at the beginning of the year, we'd take it in a heartbeat and we're going to go with everything to win it."
