Donovan praises Penedo after top-shelf showing in opening LA Galaxy play-off

Jaime Penedo has been praised for his heroic performance in LA Galaxy's play-off draw with Real Salt Lake on the weekend.

The Panamanian goalkeeper produced six saves in the Galaxy's 0-0 draw at Rio Tinto Stadium in the first leg of the Western Conference semi-finals and his efforts were certainly not lost on retiring LA veteran Landon Donovan.

"He made the saves you expect him to make, and then he made one really great save, the one on (Joao) Plata (in the 69th minute)," Donovan told reporters after the match.

"And in the past few weeks, he's had quite a few similar plays at that angle that I think he would tell you he wants to do better on. Tonight he adjusted a little bit, and he made a really good save.

"That was the save we needed tonight. The other ones were some degree of difficulty but ones you expect a good goalie to make, and then that one was the save we needed."

Donovan, Penedo and the Galaxy will now prepare for the second leg against RSL at the StubHub Center on Sunday evening as they strive to make their fifth Western Conference final in six years.
