DONE DEAL: QPR striker Kargbo joins Southend

Southend United have finalised the signing of Hamzad Kargbo from QPR.

The 19-year-old striker was on trial with the club during preseason.

He now has a contract that will keep him with the club until the end of September, for now.

Kargbo will be hoping to impress enough to land a longer deal, or gain regular game time at QPR.

Manager Phil Brown said, per the club website: "I spoke to Les Ferdinand and Ricky [Duncan] spoke to Chris Ramsey and both of them were interested in the project in the same way that we were.

"They want to give Hamzad some game time on the field of play in men's football.

"He's 19-years-old and he's a giant for 19, but he's a baby at the same time because he's only a young lad.

"Hopefully with the type of coaching that we can give him he can only improve.

"If he goes back to QPR a better player then we've done our jobs. But he wants to come in, enjoy his football and get some game time which we've offered him."
