Leicester have completed the signing of Nathan Opoku from Syracuse University in the United States.
The 21-year-old scored 11 goals and resisted eight assists for the US club.
The Ghanaian striker will be loaned straight away to the Foxes' Belgian sister club OH Leuven.
He had been representing Syracuse University, helping them to win the NCAA Division 1 title last year, in which he was named play-off MVP. He was projected to be one of the first picks in the 2023 MLS draft, but has instead opted to join City.
He also played for Ventura County Fusion in the USL League Two last year, culminating in the title last summer. Again, he was named MVP.
For now, he will not be staying at City. Instead, he will go straight to Belgium and spend the rest of the season on loan at sister club OH Leuven.
There, he will hope to follow in the footsteps of childhood friend Kamal Sowah, who was signed by City in January 2018 and loaned to Leuven, where he became a big hit over a few seasons. Sowah was eventually sold to Club Brugge in summer 2021, for around £7m, and has helped them into the Champions League knockout stages this season.
