Bayern Munich goalkeeper Manuel Neuer is out for the remainder of the season after breaking his leg while on his post-World Cup break.

The Germany international broke his lower leg while skiing and has been ruled out for the remainder of the season.

Neuer has now had surgery and speaks of a 'successful operation'. It is not known how long the goalkeeper of the German national team has been eliminated exactly.

Neuer brings the news through his own Instagram account.

"What can I say about this... The year could have ended better," said Neuer. "While I tried to change my mind by skiing, I suffered a leg fracture. The operation went well. Many thanks to the doctors! But it hurts to realise that the current season is over for me."
