Roberto Di Matteo does not believe the Chelsea were lucky to take out the Champions League last season.
The Blues led a charmed life in Europe's premier club competition to eventually beat Bayern Munich on penalties in the final with plenty of critics suggesting the London club were extremely lucky to triumph.
But Di Matteo says that his Chelsea side deserved their success even though there was an element of fortune along the way.
"They said the same about many other managers when they won. You need to deserve everything you get," he said.
"And I think we worked very hard for it. We prepared ourselves very well against our opposition. It can't just be that [luck].
"You might need, and you will need, a portion of luck during a competition like this.
"But every team has it to be able to achieve the final target to win it. That's a minor part of it."
