Didier Deschamps is considering taking Eric Cantona to court following recent comments the Manchester United legend said.
Former France international Cantona suggested that current Les Bleus boss Deschamps failed to include Real Madrid's Karim Benzema and Nice winger Hatem Ben Arfa in his squad for Euro2016 due to their ethnicity.
It is understood that Deschamps' lawyer Carlos Brusa may now take legal action against Cantona for the 'slanderous and 'defamatory' comments.
"I will initiate action before the civil and criminal courts to punish these slanderous and defamatory comments that infringe impermissibly on Mr Deschamps' integrity," Brusa told L'Equipe.
Cantona had told The Guardian: "One thing is for sure – Benzema and Ben Arfa are two of the best players in France and will not play the European Championship.
"And for sure, Benzema and Ben Arfa, their origins are north African. So, the debate is open."
