Derby County fullback Jay McEveley has revealed he was teammates with Manchester United ace Wayne Rooney for six years.
McEveley, who grew up a few minutes walk away from Manchester United icon Rooney, played in the same Merseyside side from under-nine to under-15.
He said: "We came through around the same season. He broke into the Everton team and I broke into the Blackburn side.
"We played against each other at Goodison. Then the next season Wayne was playing all the time and went on to star in Euro 2004 while I was dropped and sulked.
"I was sitting there thinking I had broken through the same time as him yet he has gone and done that.
"He was always a great player and went on to fulfil his potential. I look back and think if I'd got my head down, maybe I could've done something like that."
