Derby raid Wigan for coach Walsh

Derby County boss Paul Jewell has named Gary Walsh as new goalkeeper coach.

After a playing career that included spells at Manchester United, Bradford, Airdrie, Oldham and Middlesbrough, Walsh took up a full-time coaching post with Wigan in 2005.

Walsh, who played under Jewell at Bradford and worked with him at Wigan, has now decided to join the 43-year-old at Derby, who are currently bottom of the Barclays Premier League.

Latics boss Steve Bruce said: "Gary has conducted himself very professionally throughout my short stay here and has behaved with integrity.

"When it became clear he wished to leave, I asked him to remain here through the busy Christmas period, and he has honoured that agreement, never giving less than his all for us.

"I understand he has been a good servant to the club in his time, and he leaves with the best wishes of everyone here."

Wigan hope to make an announcement regarding a new goalkeeping coach within the next 48 hours.
