Deportivo La Coruna defender Fabian Schar is wanted by Newcastle United.

The Daily Mail says Newcastle are continuing discussions over a £3.5million deal for Swiss international defender Schar.

Rafa Benitez wants to bring in a centre-back this week and Schar is an economical option as he has a release clause following the relegation of his club Deportivo La Coruna.

The 26-year-old has been considered by Newcastle before but his price was prohibitive.
