Departing Man Utd defender Jones battling against retirement

Manchester United departing star Phil Jones is battling to save his playing career.

The 31-year-old has not played a game for more than 12 months due to various injuries.

Jones, who was tipped for a huge future by Sir Alex Ferguson many years ago, has played five games in three and a half years.

Per The Mail, he will not be offered a new deal by United and is free to find another club.

The issue for Jones is that he will have to prove his fitness somewhere to earn a longer term deal.

His best option may be a pay as you play contract with a club in a lower division.
