Dempsey hails Fulham character for Chelsea draw

Clint Dempsey hailed the character Fulham showed for their draw with Chelsea.

The American international was delighted with the character his Team showed on Boxing Day.

"It's always difficult to get points away from home especially after losing in the fashion we did last week," Dempsey told fulhamfc.com. "It was important to go out and show a lot of character [against Chelsea]. We want to keep pushing on and moving up the table. It was good to get a point.

"We worked on getting the right balance of when to get forward and get our screens right. I thought we did a good job of keeping possession in important parts of the game to give ourselves a little breather.

"All in all we were happy with the point. We would have liked to have done better with their goal, letting him [Mata] get the shot off the way he did, but I thought we showed character getting the equaliser.

"Bryan Ruiz did a good job of beating his man and getting the ball to the near post and I just tried to make a late run into the box and I was lucky to be in the right place at the right time to finish it off."
