Dele Alli: English core why I chose Spurs

Tottenham midfielder Dele Alli says he loves playing for manager Mauricio Pochettino.

Alli has become an integral member of the Spurs team since Pochettino signed him as an 18-year-old from MK Dons in 2015.

Alli said of his decision to come to Spurs: "For me personally, it was the right thing. You saw the amount of money the other kids were earning but, for me, it was about making the right decisions.

"You can see it now, the way the club is going. It's stepped up in the last few years. Pochettino, you could see was playing Ryan Mason in midfield [and] I wanted to go somewhere where the manager wasn't afraid to play kids.

"It had an English core."

When then asked specifically about Pochettino's coaching methods, Alli told BT Sport: "From the outside everyone can see what he's done for the club. You'll know as a player, you don't need more confidence than a manager who tells you the truth.

"He'll speak to you about your game, he'll see it before you see it. He'll pull you up on it, that's one of the main things that I respect and love about him.

"It's not always positive, he'll tell you if you're not working hard enough in training. Training is just as important as games.
