New Genoa coach Gigi del Neri found positives in their defeat to AC Milan on Saturday.
Del Neri replaced Luigi de Canio last week.
"I am happy with the defensive work done by the lads. It wasn't easy to come here and immediately set the tempo, but we have to get accustomed to attacking higher up the field," said the former Juventus boss.
"We need to get a few players back from injury, as Juan Manuel Vargas, Marco Borriello and Marco Rossi are important absentees. You can pay for situations like that against Milan.
"I really liked the way Luca Antonelli and Juraj Kucka played. Ciro Immobile put a lot of work in. It was a good performance.
"We have motivated players and I start from the idea you cannot want everything straight away. We must start from the positives and try to improve.
"The team defended well and had courage, so I like that attitude, but I'd prefer more logical passing options. It will require patience, but this side already gives me some good guarantees."
