Defoe urges 'relaxed' Advocaat to stay at Sunderland helm

Sunderland striker Jermaine Defoe has hailed the 'relaxed' approach by manager Dick Advocaat.

Defoe has been impressed by the Dutchman and has implored him to stay at the helm at the Stadium of Light beyond the summer.

The haul of 12 points from eight games under Advocaat's leadership ensured that Sunderland gets to remain in Premier League for a ninth-straight season.

"He has got us organised, the sharpness, the intensity," Defoe said.

"When you are out there you need to work hard for the team, he has brought that, but when you are out there it can be so difficult for the team.

"What impressed me with him, we had a meeting before Wednesday's game and he was so relaxed, and that rubs off on the players.

"He was really positive, relaxed and that's credit to him. His CV is unbelievable and if he stay he will be fantastic.

"It's part and parcel of football that a new manager comes in, new players come in. You have to get on with it and do your job.

"The lads will go away have a good rest.

"Every game you play is difficult and for me the most important thing is that whoever comes in we start the season flying, get points early doors."
