Tottenham striker Jermain Defoe has urged critics to lay-off manager Andre Villas-Boas.
England striker Defoe scored twice either side of a Gareth Bale effort to seal a 3-1 win at Reading.
Defoe said: "It's only normal, a new manager comes to a club and sometimes it takes time.
"You have world-class players come to clubs and people think they will be unbelievable instantly, but it takes time.
"Hopefully the fans are happy and everyone who has been doubting us will look at us and think we'll do well this season and kick on from here. Our season starts now."
