Defoe's move from Tottenham to Toronto 'a bloody big deal'

Jermain Defoe's transfer to Toronto FC has been labelled as 'a bloody big deal' by advertising agency Sid Lee.

A new commercial from the creative services firm sees British and London locals spitting out their beverages upon hearing the news of the Tottenham striker's move to MLS.

A spokesman for Sid Lee said: "The idea for the campaign was developed from the thinking that historically soccer news isn't big news in North America until it has become 'footie news' in Europe.

"The campaign was titled 'a Bloody Big Deal' as a nod to both Jermain's success in the English Premier League and the impact he will have on Toronto FC and Major League Soccer."

31-year old Defoe, who calls West Ham United, Bournemouth and Portsmouth as his former clubs, will officially join TFC in late February after signing a lucrative four-year deal.
