Defoe to break January transfer record with Sunderland move

Jermain Defoe will make a record FOURTH January transfer when he joins Sunderland from Toronto FC.

Defoe's prospective switch will be the fourth time he has moved clubs during the January transfer window.

The 32-year-old was transferred from West Ham to Spurs in 2004, then from Tottenham to Portsmouth in 2008 before re-joining the north London outfit in 2009.

His move to the Black Cats will see him emulate Wayne Bridge, who has made four moves in the January window, since the window came into effect in the 2002/03 season.

Ex-Liverpool and Spurs striker Robbie Keane has engineered three moves in the winter window.
