Defensive performance of West Brom lauded by Man City's Kompany

Manchester City captain Vincent Kompany has praised the defensive effort of today's opponents West Bromwich Albion.

The Baggies became the first team to keep a clean sheet against the league leaders this season and their performance did not go unnoticed by Kompany whose side were wasteful in the final third.

"I think it was a good effort from West Brom. They looked, to me, like a team in form and even though we had a lot of possession, we probably had more chances than they did," the Belgian defender told Sky Sports.

"You can see that they were confident in their defending and a lot of their play was very good at times.

"We set out to score early in the game and it just didn't happen. We expected that if we didn't score, with the type of striker they have, they would create chances and luckily for us they had one chance that was very dangerous for us.

"But overall it was a very good performance from a team that's in form and I think that if we would have scored like we usually do and been sharp like we usually are, we could have won this game.

"You got to give it to them, being a defender myself, those are the kind of games I think their defenders enjoyed."
