Daniele de Rossi is close to putting pen to paper on a new contract with Roma.

Gazzetta dello Sport says Champions League rivals Real Madrid have been chasing De Rossi for two years, but the midfielder is on the verge of signing a deal which will keep him with Roma until 2012.

Real have had contact with De Rossi's representatives and offered the midfielder £4 million-a-year to move to Madrid.

Meanwhile, Roma skipper Francesco Totti said after seeing Inter Milan shocked at Napoli: "I said in Milan that the championship was not over. We fight to the end and will never give up."
