David De Gea has played down claims that Manchester United went out with a purely defensive mindset in Tuesday's Champions League clash with Bayern Munich.
The Red Devils drew 1-1 with the reigning European champions at Old Trafford after managing to stifle the attack of the Germans.
David Moyes' tactics have drawn criticism from all around but goalkeeper De Gea felt it was a clever way to contain a free-flowing Pep Guardiola side.
"We played them in a proper way," De Gea told reporters. "We didn't let them to play like they're used to and that's why they could be frustrated.
"I think it's important people don't forget Manchester is a big club. Well, we are fighting against a team which I consider one of the best in the world. We had the chance to win, so we are satisfied."
Nemanja Vidic scored with a fine header in the 58th minute befoire Bastian Schweinsteiger responded less than ten minutes with a neat half-volley before he was sent off for receiving a second yellow card.
The return bout takes place at the Allianz Arena in Munich on Wednesday, April 9.
