DC United have announced the signing of Hamdi Salihi as a Designated Player.
The 28-year old Albanian international joins the MLS club from Austrian outfit Rapid Vienna and will officially be added to the roster following receipt of his International Transfer Certificate, P-1 Visa, and full medical clearance.
Salihi, who has netted163 goals in 289 matches in all competitions during his career, recently attracted interest from Scottish giants Rangers and Celtic but DC general manager Dave Kasper was delighted that his club was able to make such a capture.
"He has one of the most impressive strike rates you'll find and has shown he's capable of scoring goals at every level in which he's played. We believe strongly he will become another important piece for our team and we look forward to seeing him on the field in March.""We are thrilled to have completed a deal to bring Hamdi to MLS and D.C. United," said Kasper.
Salihi kicked off his career with KS Vllaznia Shkoder in 2002 before playing for such clubs as Panionios Athens, KF Tirana and SV Ried before landing at Rapid in 2009.
