Steve Birnbaum admits his time spent with the USA national team recently has been extremely beneficial.
The DC United defender was called up to national team training in January which led to his international debut in last week's 3-2 friendly loss to Chile.
24-year old Birnbaum, who enjoyed a solid rookie season in 2014, has impressed during his spell under Juergen Klinsmann and says it has been great to learn from national team regulars like Matt Besler and Jermaine Jones.
"It's been great," Birnbaum said.
"I learn a lot just from watching (these types of players), and they also take me to the side and kind of tell me some things I can improve on or what to do in some situations.
"It's been an awesome learning experience."
Birnbaum is in line to add to his one international cap when the US take on Panama at the StubHub Center this Sunday.
