DC United have announced that they have acquired veteran playmaker Dwayne De Rosario in exchange for midfielder Dax McCarty in a surprise trade. The 33-year old former Toronto FC attacking midfielder has departed New York Red Bulls for Washington after just 13 matches with McCarty moving the other way to Red Bull Arena.
DC general manager Dave Kasper said it was a great move to bring a player of De Rosario's quality to the club.
"We are thrilled to have concluded a deal to bring Dwayne De Rosario to our club," said Kasper. "Dwayne is a proven champion in our league and will add significant firepower to our attack. We look forward to seeing him join the club this week."
Head coach Ben Olsen added: "Today we signed one of the best players MLS has ever seen in Dwayne De Rosario. In order to gain a quality piece we gave up a quality player in Dax McCarty, but we feel that De Rosario is a game-changer that will help us in our push for playoffs."
