Davy Klaassen's flop at Everton has forced many of his peers in Holland to rethink their transfer plans.
AZ Alkmaar midfielder Joris van Overeem feels more players should stay and rebuild the quality of Eredivisie.
"If you put more money into the youth academy and apply a good vision, as is the case with AZ, then there will almost certainly be better players," he said.
"If you continue to develop in the right way, the level of the Eredivisie will eventually rise and it will be more interesting for players to stay longer in the Netherlands."
He points to Davy Klaassen, who left Ajax as captain, but still struggles to reach the level that Everton demands.
"He was out of the Eredivisie and many people thought Everton was a logical step. Nevertheless, it does not seem so easy to step up. On the other hand, it was also difficult to stay with Ajax. A possible conclusion: players are currently too quickly developing in the Eredivisie "
