Dan Burn: I know Newcastle move could've gone the other way

Dan Burn admits it was a risk leaving Brighton for Newcastle United almost a year ago.

As a first-team star at Brighton he walked away from near top-flight safety to join relegation-haunted Newcastle.

But that risk paid off, Burn told Chronicle Live: "It is a great feeling now. But I know it could have gone the other way. It actually couldn't have gone better. When I signed it could have gone two ways, I am just glad it went the right way.

"It has been really positive. I hope it will stay that way and we can kick on and stick in."

Asked if the high octane days at Newcastle make the rise up from Blyth Spartans and the Quakers seem even more remarkable, Burn reflected: "Definitely. I try not to think about it too much though. You could get caught up in that. "I think that it's more something I will look at more when I finish playing.

"It's a dream come true and I'll help in every way I can. For however long that will be. I am sure in years to come we will be competing where we are now regularly. But it's been amazing."
