Culina's belief and patience pays off for Newcastle Jets

Branko Culina admitted he remained patient during Newcastle Jets' poor run which ended on Saturday night.

The Jets took to and demolished second-placed Adelaide United 3-1 at EnergyAustralia Stadium on Saturday night to help get their flailing season back on track but the coach insists he never lost faith.

"I always knew that we were capable of better than what our performances were, and we showed that in the first two games of the season, without winning,'' Culina said.

''From there, everything went pear-shaped for us with many, many things working against us. But this is probably more the Newcastle Jets I'm aware of. Credit to the players.''

Culina also heaped praise on promising striker Marko Jesic who popped up with a double to help his side to a confidence-boosting victory.

"There was a call from some of our supporters and pundits to leave Marko out, that he wasn't quite ready and I was favouring him,'' Culina added. ''But he is a talented young player who I always believed in. Marko certainly repaid the belief and trust in him.''
