Culina cools Europe links but plans more signings at Newcastle

Newcastle Jets coach Branko Culina has cooled rumours he is about to sign a European duo but insists the club has some more signing to do.

29-year old Dutch striker Romano Denneboom, who has played with Heerenveen, Willem II, NEC Nijmegen, FC Twente and Sparta Rotterdam in the Eredivisie, and 28-year old Spanish midfielder Arnau Riera who has played in Spain, England and Scotland, have both been linked with a move to the Jets but Culina rubbished that saying 'they were not on my list'.

However, the ex-Sydney FC coach did insist he would be out to sign more players to add to the three (Jeremy Brockie, Ruben Zadkovich & Kasey Wehrman) he had made in the past week.

"We've still got room for more," Culina told the Newcastle Herald.

"The idea was obviously to get our squad finalised as quickly as we can and not have to rush at the last minute, as we have done previously for a number of years.

"We still plan to sign a couple of players. The important thing is that they are quality players.

"There is no particular position we are looking to fill. The main thing is that the players must bring some quality into our squad."
