CSKA Moscow goalkeeper Igor Akinfeev is believed to have opened talks in regards to a deal to join Manchester United.
The Russian international impressed the Red Devils with his performance in the 3-3 Champions League draw between the clubs at Old Trafford midweek and it now seems a January move is on the cards.
United boss Sir Alex Ferguson has been on the lookout for a shot-stopper since veteran Edwin van der Sar was injured and Ben Foster and Tomasz Kuszczak failed to impress at the top level.
The fact that van der Sar is expected to announce his retirement after this season leaves Ferguson with no other option but to sign a replacement and Akinfeev seems to fit the bill.
