Crystal Palace skipper Jedinak named Australian Footballer of the Year

Mile Jedinak has claimed the Australian Footballer of the Year prize at the Australian Football Awards in Sydney on Wednesday night.

The Crystal Palace captain had a terrific year in football both for club and country, leading the Eagles into the Premier League with victory in the Championship playoff against Watford.

29-year old Jedinak was also a key factor in the Australian national team gaining qualification to the 2014 World Cup in Brazil.

Jedinak was also close to winning the Professional Footballers' Australia Footballer of the Year award but was edged out by Bayer Leverkusen's Robbie Kruse.

"It was a massive year, it was very successful and one I'm not going to forget in a hurry," Jedinak said.
