Crystal Palace defender Luke Croll is enjoying his loan at Exeter City.
Croll says seeing action with Exeter is better for his development than U23 football at Palace.
He told the Croydon Advertiser: "People's livelihoods are on the line when you win in the Football League, and you see what it means to other team-mates – at that level in the position we're in, winning is so important.
"It's important at any level when you're going to changes lives if you do win.
"At the U21/U23 level, nothing is on the line so it's easier to fall into that mind frame that it's just another game.
"Whereas if you're playing in a league where you can get promoted or you can get relegated, it's that competitive edge that you need – and you need to learn it quickly."
