Crystal Palace boss Allardyce happy grandson quit Man Utd for Bury

Crystal Palace boss Sam Allardyce is happy seeing his grandson leave Manchester United this month.

Sam Allardyce Jr had been at the Reds for eight years but recently turned down the chance to join a number of other Premier League offers and opted to sign a two-year deal with League One side Bury.

Allardyce, speaking in The Sun, said: “My grandson just got released from Manchester United, which is disappointing for him but great for his career because he has just signed for Bury.

“If he is good enough, he will be in Bury's first-team long before he would have been in United's.

“There has to be a change of direction that doesn't allow any club to nick our best 14-year-old when they feel like it."
