Crocked Roma captain Francesco Totti thought they were going to win the Scudetto for a moment yesterday.

Roma eventually were held 1-1 by Catania as Inter Milan defeated Parma and Totti said: "For a while there today I really believed we'd won it. It's a shame, but still a wonderful experience."

Despite the failure to capture a seemingly impossible trophy, thousands of fans flocked to Fiumicino airport to welcome home the squad from Catania.

"It is great to see so many fans celebrating the squad. It means the team and the fans are a single entity.

"We must thank everyone for this season and now we still have the chance to win the Coppa Italia."
