Owen Coyle is in the frame for the Wolves post.
The Daily Star Sunday says the Scot has been out of work since being axed as Bolton Wanderers boss seven months ago.
But he is a front-runner to replace the sacked Dean Saunders at Molineux after impressing chairman Steve Morgan and chief executive Jez Moxey.
Coyle, 46, has all the qualities Morgan and Moxey are looking for as they plot an instant return to the Championship.
