Coventry have high hopes for Ireland

English Championship club Coventry City are holding hope that young goalkeeper Danny Ireland can bounce back from a thigh injury.

The 22-year old Sydney native joined the Sky Blues in 2008 but has often taken a backseat at the Ricoh Arena.

In March, Ireland suffered the injury and has been sidelined ever since and it seems as though he will be out of action until at least September.

But Coventry goalkeeping coach Steve Ogrizovic has indicated that when Ireland returns, he has every chance of taking the number one position now Keiren Westwood has departed for Sunderland.

"We mustn't forget Danny Ireland who was really unfortunate to get injured last season when he got his opportunity when Keiren (Westwood) got injured," Orgizovic told the Coventry Telegraph.

"He suffered a torn thigh muscle and people perhaps don't realise that he carried on for 40 minutes with that so he deserves some recognition for that alone.

"He's had an operation and he is going to be fit around September time so we will have three good goalkeepers who will create competition between each other and that's the way goalkeepers develop."
