Could these 3 players turn Arsenal into a genuine title contender?

There are three players who Arsenal could realistically sign this summer which will surely turn them into favourites to win the Premier League in 2016/17.

With Arsene Wenger possibly going into his final season as Arsenal manager, it would be a nice send-off for the Frenchman and the Gunners faithful if he leaves with a Premier League medal.

Swiss midfielder Granit Xhaka has already been announced as Arsenal's first signing of the summer but the North London side still need a few more quality additions if they are to become title challengers.

A lot of questions have been asked as to whether a few individuals within the squad have the ability to stay consistent throughout the season, therefore the need to sign key players is essential.

It seems that a few players have proven they can – especially Mesut Ozil who notched up six goals and 19 assists last season. The playmaker could have had more assists to his name if it wasn't for Arsenal's lack of clinical finishing, with the Gunners hitting the woodwork 21 times during the campaign.

Wenger has already sorted out another option in midfield before the transfer window had started; but it appears that a centre-back, a winger and a striker are still missing from his side.

These are the players that I believe could guide the Gunners to their first league title since 2003/04.

Julian Draxler (Wolfsburg)

Julian Draxler has been linked with a move to the Premier League for quite some time, but now it could be possible after Wolfsburg only finished eighth in the Bundesliga, following the young gun's arrival from Schalke last summer.

The winger was impressive for Germany during Euro2016, which will surely catch the attention of a few managers.

Wolfsburg won't be competing in the Champions League or Europa League next season, so it could be possible that Draxler might want a move to a side that will be playing in either competition. Arsenal could be the perfect match for the 22-year-old, considering the fact that Theo Walcott and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain have been too inconsistent and ineffective on the flanks.

The Gunners already have Alexis Sanchez on the left wing, but if they were to bring Draxler in, it would definitely be a nightmare for many teams to handle. His ability to play with both feet alongside his pace and the skill to dribble past defenders with ease has been witnessed during his days at Schalke 04.

Draxler's versatility has been impressive being able to play on either side of the flanks and behind the striker which could be beneficial for a team like Arsenal.

Since making his move to Wolfsburg last summer, Draxler notched up eight goals and eight assists in 31 appearances in all competitions, which isn't bad considering Die Wolfe struggled in Germany's top flight.

Alexandre Lacazette (Lyon)

Arsenal fans already experienced a long transfer saga with Alexandre Lacazette last summer, but the club still considers him an option.

The Frenchman did not receive a call-up by Didier Deschamps for the European Championships which could possibly lead the striker leaving Lyon for a bigger club in a bid to push himself into the limelight for France's 2018 World Cup squad.

The 25-year-old netted on 21 occasions for Lyon in Ligue 1 last season, meanwhile Arsenal's first option striker, Oliver Giroud, scored 16 goals in the Premier League. It's fair to say the Premier League is more competitive than Ligue 1, but it simply shows that Lacazette knows where the back of the net is, finishing as the second highest goal-scorer in the league only behind the great Zlatan Ibrahimovic.

Arsenal's current situation up front doesn't seem to be helpful at the moment, first of all with Danny Welbeck returning to the sideline once again with another injury after making 11 league appearances in 2015/16.

It normally follows on with Theo Walcott being played out of position, which has worked out a few times but is not sufficient for the full campaign, while Giroud is still yet to complete a season with 20 league goals for Arsenal, which has prompted Wenger to deem a new attacker necessary.

Lacazette has notched 48 league goals for Lyon over the past two seasons, making him a player that could easily lead Arsenal to the league title.

Shkodran Mustafi (Valencia)

Shkodran Mustafi's agent has already revealed that his client will be leaving Valencia this summer and it's unbelievable that many big sides haven't attempted to sign him.

The German centre-back has established himself as one of the best defenders in Spain, who will be looking for a move elsewhere after enduring a subpar campaign with Valencia.

The 24-year-old is known for his aerial duels, ball interception and being one step ahead of his opponents. Last season, he completed 133 interceptions and 80 tackles, which is the most in the whole Valencia squad.

Mustafi seems like an ideal replacement for Per Mertesacker, who is starting to age, and was recently ruled out for up to five months. Mustafi partnering Laurent Koscielny next season could be a solid pair at the heart of defence and will be very tough to get past as an attacker.

However, Mertesacker isn't the only centre-back who is ageing, Koscielny has reached his 30's, which leaves Callum Chambers, Gabriel Paulista and new signing Rob Holding as the only other options for Wenger which appears too inexperienced to win them the Premier League title.

Bringing in Mustafi would mean Arsenal has a centre-back that will serve them for five world class seasons at least.

Mustafi joined the Everton academy at the age of 17, rejecting offers from Manchester City and Newcastle United, so he will very much know what to expect in English football despite making very few appearance for the Toffees before gaining experience in the defence-minded Italian Serie A with Sampdoria.
