West Ham United legend Tony Cottee is delighted with the progress of James Tomkins and Mark Noble.
Cottee is pleased at first-team regulars Tomkins and Noble, "arguably, West Ham's two best players last season".
However, he also told the Sunday Mirror: "It will be a big season for Kevin Nolan - his experience will be vital. But the man I am looking to make an impact is Carlton Cole. He does have the lot, but he is also a confidence player and needs to be told how good he is.
"Above all, we need a good start, to be mid-table by November-December because, in quick succession, we play Arsenal, Manchester City, Chelsea and Manchester United.
"Unless we have a few points by then, it could be a long winter."
