Costanzo impresses in first outing for Newcastle Jets

Former Adelaide United defender Angelo Costanzo impressed Newcastle Jets boss Gary van Egmond is his first hit out with the club.

Costanzo swapped the red of Adelaide for the gold of Newcastle at the end of the 2008/09 A-League season and is gearing up for another Asian Champions League campaign, this time with his new club.

van Egmond said it was good to get the experienced central defender out on the park after having limited game time of late.

"We wanted to have a look at Ang as he hasn't played too much recently and it was good to see him come through it," he told 442.

"Providing he comes through okay in the training sessions on Thursday and Friday then he certainly comes into the mix."

The Jets defeated Hamilton Olympic 4-0 with a brace to talented youngster Sean Rooney, and a goal each to veteran Sash Petrovski and Italian recruit Fabio Vignaroli.
