Costa Rican midfielder Hernandez pens new Wellington Phoenix deal

Carlos Hernandez has signed a new contract with Wellington Phoenix it has been announced.

The 31-year old Costa Rican midfielder joined the Phoenix from Indian club Prayag United in February on an initial one-year deal with the view to a second season.

After impressing for the New Zealand club, Hernandez was rewarded with the second-year option and was delighted to put pen to the extension.

"I am really happy in Wellington," Hernandez said.

"I have settled well and now my family is with me it is even better."

He added: "The team is playing really good, attacking football and is more confident now that we have three wins in the last three games.

"I also think I will play better in the rest of the season and I'm sure we will make the finals.

"Once that is achieved anything can happen in the playoffs."
