Conte coy over Chelsea future's of Fabregas and Mikel

Chelsea boss Antonio Conte refused to confirm whether Mikel John Obi or Cesc Fabregas still have a future at Stamford Bridge.

Conte hasn't selected Mikel in any of the games this term.

His current deal expires next summer and when asked by Standard Sport if Mikel is part of his plans, Conte said: "It's normal in every squad that there are players who are towards the end of their contract and they and the club together take a decision on their futures.

"Mikel is working very well now. In the past he's sometimes had some injuries. But now he's working very hard, and I'm pleased with his work-rate."

When asked again whether he has told the 29-year-old that he still has a future at Chelsea, he added: "Have I spoken to him now? No. No. No, but I repeat, now it's important to be focused on the championship in this period.

"We are in November. It's important to be focused on the pitch. Then, we can focus on other situations in time."

Spain midfielder Fabregas' role at the club is also in jeopardy having started just one League game this term.

Fabregas has resumed training again after a muscular injury and Conte revealed he will be back in contention for a first team place after the international break.

He said: "For now, we are at the start of November and it's important to look at the present and build something in the present that's important for the future. It's too early to talk.

"Fabregas is Chelsea's player and I'm very happy to have him in my squad. Now it's important he recovers very well, finds the right form to come back with us, and stays with us and the team."
