Conte admits: Chelsea tired after pre-season

Antonio Conte says his Chelsea players are feeling the effects of a tiresome pre-season.

The Blues beat German club Werder Bremen 4-2 in their final summer hit-out on Sunday and will now look ahead to next Monday night's Premier League opener against West Ham United.

Regarding the victory in Bremen, Conte suggested his side conceded twice due to the fact that they are a little lethargic following a heavy bout of training and games ahead of the new campaign.

"It was a good victory," said Conte. "We've finished our pre-season, it was very tough and hard in all aspects and we must be pleased to finish with a win.

"It's important to win for confidence ahead of the start of the season. The team started the game in the right way and with the right intensity. There were some bad situations to concede two goals which I didn't like, we must improve a lot, but we were tired after our pre-season.

"We are working very hard to be ready. It will be difficult. We know we have some problems but we are trying to solve them.

"I am pleased with the attitude and behaviour of my players. It's been good and now all of the players need a rest."

Early goals from Eden Hazard and Oscar had Chelsea in control before former Blues sticker Claudio Pizarro replied from the penalty spot.

Diego Costa restored the two-goal advantage on the stroke of half-time before Lennart Thy again edged Bremen back into the contest prior to Pedro's late strike to wrap up proceedings at the Weserstadion.
