Columbus Crew's Berhalter adds ex-1860 Munich teammate Wolff to coaching staff

Columbus Crew head coach Gregg Berhalter has appointed former teammate Josh Wolff as his assistant for the 2014 MLS season.

The 36-year old former Chicago Fire, Sporting Kansas City, 1860 Munich and DC United forward has been added to Berhalter's coaching staff after the pair played together both in Germany and on the USA national team.

"In Josh, we are adding a coach with a very good eye for offensive development," Berhalter said in a statement.

"He will complement the coaching staff nicely as he's a young coach with a bright mind and a playing career that demonstrated his intelligence on the field."

Wolff suggested that both his and Berhalter's experiences in Europe will be of great benefit to the Crew going forward.

"I'm a young coach, but I have my ideas as well. Those things have to evolve. As a player, you have to evolve," he said.

"As a coach, you have to evolve. I think Gregg is an unbelievable student of the game. His upbringing in U.S. Soccer and playing in Holland, playing in Germany can shape that and certainly create your views of the game.

"With that, you create your own personality and your own identity. I think it will certainly resonate with how he can constructs his team, constructs training and the ideas, detail and discipline he'll try to implement with his team week-in and week-out."
