Columbus Crew aware of Philadelphia Union's Stoke loanee Edu

Columbus Crew return to MLS action this weekend when they host Philadelphia Union at Crew Stadium on Saturday.

The Crew opened their 2014 MLS season with a 3-0 win at DC United on March 9 before having the bye last weekend.

Now they are preparing for their home debut this campaign but captain Michael Parkhurst is well aware that the Union will provide a very tricky proposition.

Parkhurst identified midfielder Maurice Edu, who is on loan from Stoke City, as well as young striker Jack McInerney as the Union's main dangers as the Crew look to add to their first-up win.

"(Philly) is solid straight up the middle," Parkhurst said.

"Maurice Edu brings a lot of bite to their midfield. He's box-to-box, getting in on the attack and winning balls. Brian Carroll likes to sit and picks out passing lanes defensively.

"Jack McInerney is a guy who's sneaky. He's always in behind and playing just inside the offside line, making early runs. He's a guy you really have to be aware of for the entire game."

As for the Crew's preparation, Parkhurst suggested the bye had come at a good time despite it being in Week 2 of the new season.

"We put in a good couple weeks of training to get ready, work on our fitness, but also work on individual things and rest a couple injuries," the defender added.

"It gave us an extra week to get used to the system and continue to fine tune things tactically."
