Colorado Rapids' Mullan apologizes to injured Zakuani

Colorado Rapids midfielder Brian Mullan has issued a formal apology to injured Seattle Sounders winger Steve Zakuani.

Mullan produced a horror challenge on the former Arsenal trainee early in the clash between the two clubs at Dick's Sporting Goods Park on Friday night.

The tackle left Zakuani with a badly-broken leg in two places and is sure to sideline for almost the remainder of the season.

Mullan has said sorry for his part in the injury and insists he meant no harm when going in with his challenge which ended up him receiving a red card.

"It is with regret that my tackle resulted in the injury of Steve and I am deeply sorry to Steve and all those impacted by his injury," read part of the statement Mullan released via his management agency.
