Clichy hopeful on Man City skipper Kompany - ‘He’s one of the best in Europe’

Manchester City captain Vincent Kompany appeared to pull up with yet another injury upon his return to action on Wednesday night.

The Belgian centre-back came off late in the 2-1 win over Swansea City in the EFL Cup third round at the Liberty Stadium having got through most of the 90 minutes.

Manager Pep Guardiola did not seem too fazed by Kompany's late withdrawal after City had used all three subs and teammate Clichy, who scored the opening goal, was also confident it may have only been a slight mishap.

"Most of the time when you come back after a long period you don't play for more than an hour so I think he was probably just a bit tired and hopefully it will just be a matter of days," Clichy told mancity.com.

"Vincent is Vincent. Fully fit he's one of the best centre halves in Europe and we all know his quality.

"We've played well so far but having someone like him is a real bonus."
