Clemente backing Athletic Bilbao for Copa triumph: I'm fed up being reminded I was last coach to win Copa

Former Athletic Bilbao coach Javier Clemente is backing Ernesto Valverde's team to win the Copa del Rey final.

Athletic meet Sevilla in Saturday's final, with Clemente the last coach to lead Bilbao to a Copa victory in 1984.

He told Marca: "Since I was small, I don't give it much importance. They call me, they greet me, they take photos with me, but I'm sick and tired of being reminded that I was the last one to win the Cup.

"I want them to take that away from me. I want the kids of these generations who haven't seen it to know what it's like to win a big title. Many were not born and have no idea what a championship is. It is important that, with almost all the players here because some are already from abroad, the illusion of being from Athletic is kept alive a little, that the scarf is proudly worn and that the beautiful philosophy of the club is not abandoned.

"Because I would like that type of League more, that there was more territoriality. That Madrid lined up six or seven players from Madrid, Valencia from Valencia... Now football is a clash of multinationals, the more cash, the more possibilities you have. You can miss out on some, like Real, Athletic, Girona, but that's just one... Just what Bellingham has cost is enough to pay for the entire Athletic squad for three years..."
